If you’re in your twenties, a student , working, travelling – no matter who you are – did you know that turning off your electronics earlier in the evening and initiating a bedtime routine without “blue light”, is one of the top proven ways you can enjoy better more restorative sleep?

Age demographic: Who’s Using A Cellphone In The Bedroom?

Percent Who Don’t Sleep as Well Because of Technology*:

Percent of respondents, by age bracket, who said they agreed with the statement “I don’t sleep as well as I used to because I am connected to technology all the time” at a level of 8, 9, or 10, with 10 points meaning it describes them exactly (Time/Qualcomm)

ESSENTIAL OILS: MISSING LINKS FOR SOUND SLEEP

Using essential oils aromatically and topically at bedtime may also facilitate deep restorative sleep. Specific molecules found within certain pure therapeutic grade essential oils help to calm the mind and body, even stimulate they body’s natural production of serotonin (converted to melatonin).

A few drops of Lavender and Cedarwood essential oil, for example, in a cool mist ultrasonic diffuser, for example, can have a significant impact – improving our quality of sleep each night.

Or make a sleepy time roller ball bottle like THIS ONE and apply to feet, wrists, neck, or pillow at bedtime.

Essential Oils & Pregnancy

EOs & Pregnancy Graphic

Millions of women throughout history have used herbs and aromatic plants for various reasons during pregnancy and childbirth.

Which pure plant essences (a.k.a. essential oils) and herbal preparations available to us today, are helpful and safe to use during pregnancy?

Helpful Articles & Reference Guides:

We’re linking you to some excellent articles and reference guides we have found which will help you to answer these important questions…

The first is by pharmacist Dr. Lindsay Elmore: CLICK HERE.

The oils and dietary supplements mentioned in Dr. Elmore’s article, are from our trusted purveyor and world leader in 100% pure, therapeutic grade essential oils, non-toxic oil-infused personal care products, and natural food supplements with both FDA GRAS certification and Health Canada NHP (natural health product) approval. (See link below).

A second excellent article highlighting oils use and nutritional tips for each week within each trimester of pregnancy…

…may be found here: Essential Oils by Trimester: a Pregnant Woman’s Guide. Please read this second article in its entirety as it pertains to the infographic below.

Thirdly, here is a link to a PDF on Aromatherapy in Pregnancy

…written by Vicki Hobbs of the Phoenix Therapies Pregnancy Centre listing essential oils safe to use during pregnancy, and those recommended by midwives and aromatherapists to use during labour and birth. The article also lists essential oils to not use during pregnancy.

And an article by doctor, midwife, and herbalist Aviva Romm…

…entitled Herbal Medicines in Pregnancy: What’s Safe & What’s Not.

Aviva writes, “Most of what is currently known about botanical use during pregnancy is based on a significant body of historical, empirical, and observational evidence, with some pharmacologic and animal studies. Overall, most herbs have a high safety profile with little evidence of harm. Pregnant mommas commonly experience minor symptoms and discomforts for which the use of natural remedies may be gentler and safer than over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription pharmaceuticals.

Few reported adverse events have occurred, and those that have typically involved the consumption of known toxic herbs, adulterations, or inappropriate use or dosage of botanical therapies.  However, lack of proof of harm is not synonymous with proof of safety. Some of the harmful effects of herbs may not be readily apparent until after use has been discontinued, or may only occur with cumulative use, so it’s important to be smart and safe and use only those herbs in pregnancy with a proven track record and a good safety profile.”

Dr. Romm has included two helpful charts – one listing herbs considered safe in pregnancy, and another with herb categories to avoid during pregnancy. Again, this comprehensive article may be found HERE.

True Healing Oils

northern-lights-finland

“It takes a life process to produce a living substance. Only God can do that. Chemistry is not all there is to the components of an essential oil. There is also electromagnetic frequency, or life force.”

norther-lights-black-spruce

“If frequency is measured,” writes David Stewart, Ph.D., D.N.M., you find that synthetically produced [man-made] substances are motionless and inert. Zero frequency. At the same time, a naturally grown component in an intact oil gently coaxed from the plant with all of its companion components is vibrant and full of vigor, eager to heal and administer therapy… In fact, there is intelligence in essential oils that have been properly grown and extracted without adulteration. Oils produced by living processes are living. Oils produced by mechanical man-made processes are lifeless.”(1)

Today we find synthetic essential oil ingredients in soaps, cleaning agents, skin care, food, and flavourings, as well as, sadly in the industry of health and wellness. When the oils are extended and adultered for commercial use, their therapeutic biochemical structure is destroyed, making them useful only as perfume for scenting all types of products and as flavouring compounds…

…On the other hand, the chemical structure of a pure essential oil can rapidly penetrate cell membranes, travel throughout the body, and enhance cellular function. For health professionals who have used pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils on patients, it is very clear that there is a powerful life force inherent in these substances, which gives them unmatched ability to interact with cells in the human body.(3)

OBTAINING OILS THAT HEAL:

“There are a few growers and distilleries in North America that produce high quality oils fulfilling all the criteria for “therapeutic grade.” Young Living is the largest and best know of these…

yl-lavender-field

…Young Living brand oils meet AFNOR/ISO standards [of the European Standardization regulatory organizations] and much more! In addition to meeting AFNOR standards, therapeutic grade oils must also be organically grown, unadulterated, properly distilled, and meet other criteria which few brands other than Young Living oils actually meet…

Therapeutic grade oils are almost never sold in retail stores. Do not expect healing from non-therapeutic grade oils. Over 90% of the oils sold as “essential” in America are food or fragrance grades and unsuitable for healing applications.”(2)

D. Gary Young (Young Living founder) on YL Therapeutic Grade Lavender essential oil…

“One of Lavender’s most important constituents is linalool – responsible for all of the things Lavender can do. A relatively good quality Lavender oil has a linalool acetate level of 4.41.  Young Living’s Lavender has a linalool acetate level of 67.0 ~ the highest produced in the world.”

From the seeds Young Living plants in the ground to the seals placed on their bottles, the focus is on naturally occurring and high-quality components providing a pristine final product without compromise. This is their “SEED to SEAL” promise of quality and purity.

Lavender“To say Lavender essential oil is just Lavender would be a mistake. Not only are there many different types of Lavender, there are also different methods of seed selection, farming, extracting, and testing methods to ensure the right constituents are contained within the final product. A baking instructor could give 12 students in their classroom the exact same recipe to bake at home and all would come back with interestingly different outcomes.
The same is true with essential oil production. Just because the same Genus and species of plant may have been used, does not mean the same oil will be in the bottle of two different companies. Essential oil production is a delicate science that requires a tremendous amount of knowledge and understanding of proper full production from the beginning to the end. Not all oils are created equal”. ~ Karlie Holtby, Holistic Nutritionist, Lettuce Change

Many people believe that essential oils are God’s medicine for mankind and will provide critical medical solutions in the future. Essential oils could very well be the MISSING LINK of modern health care, brining allopathic and holistic medical practices together for optimal health in the 21st century.(4)

Single Essential Oils: COPAIBA (Copaifera reticulata)

copaiba-graphic

No Ibuprofen or NSAIDS…A Copaiba Story:

“I have had great success treating the pain from work-related back and shoulder strain, and repetitive strain to my right arm and shoulder, without using any N.S.A.I.D.’s (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs) which are known to tax the liver, cause stomach pain and heartburn, ringing in the ears, allergies, and more.
Instead, for pain and inflammation I have been using Genuine Therapeutic Grade Copaiba Essential Oil from Young Living, applied directly to the skin and massaged in to the affected area. We have used Copaiba alone, both ‘neat’ and diluted in a carrier oil, with almost immediate noticeable results.
We have also used Copaiba as a ‘magnifier oil’ to amplify the effects of a previously applied essential oil for pain. For example, the time I dropped a heavy crystal vase on the top of my husbands foot. In this case we immediately applied PanAway™ Essential Oil Blend to the bruised area, followed by Copaiba approximately thirty minutes following the first oil application, to ‘drive in’ the first oil and amplify it’s effectivness. The pain and swelling was gone within the hour with no visible bruising!
It’s good to know there are amazing natural plant based medicines known for centuries to other cultures which we can now use for inflammation and pain that are natural and safe without harmful side effects.”
~ Diana E. Natalie Johnson

About Copaiba:

Copaiba trees grow in rainforest regions of the world such as Peru and Brazil. The oil we use is distilled from the gum resin that is wild harvested from Brazilian Copaiba tree. This genuine grade essential oil contains the highest amounts of beta caryophyllene (55 %) of any know essential oil. Caryophyllene is a well known plant chemical which has been documented with regard to its strong anti-inflammatory effects.

“A single copaiba tree can provide about 40 liters of oleoresin annually, making it a sustainable rainforest resource that can be harvested without destroying the tree or the forest in which it grows”.

The Essential Oils Desk Reference ~ Sixth Edition, sites thirteen research studies published on Copaiba’s properties and actions within the body. Much of the clinical research performed to date has verified the traditional uses of Copaiba.

Only the Brazilian copaiba or ‘copal’ as it is called in Brazil (derived from the the Spanish word for incense, “copelli”), has a GRAS distinction in the United States, and has the most published research on its anti-inflammatory effects.

Main Actions:

  • powerful anti-inflammatory
  • relieves pain including muscle aches & pains and joint stiffness

  • expels phlegm & reduces cough, eases bronchitis, sinusitis, sore throat
  • soothes skin, insect bites, skin disorders

Aromatherapy & Overcoming Trauma

“The emotional trauma from accidents, death of loved ones, assault, abuse, etc., can implant its devastation deep within the hidden recesses of the mind, causing life-long problems that seem endless. Being able to release such burdens can bring about a new “lease on life” with a return to motivation and vitality.”Essential Oils Desk Reference, Sixth Edition, © 2014

Consider that a pure therapeutic grade essential oil knowledgeably distilled from properly cultivated aromatic plants, contains unique and complex constituents that facilitate each of the top self-care practices (sleep, nourishment, exercise, breathing, grieving, relaxation, and focus) to assist in overcoming the effects of trauma in it’s many and varied forms.

“An essential oil of a single plant species typically contains 100 to 400 different chemical compounds”, writes Dr. David Steward, Ph.D., D.N.M. in his brilliant book on the chemistry of essential oils. “Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia) is [a] good example of a thoroughly studied, thoroughly analyzed oil whose constituents have yet to be all discovered…There are over 200 known compounds identified so far and scientists expect that this is only half of the constituents present in Lavender.”1

Q. How are pure therapeutic grade essential oils distilled from aromatic plants, able to impact the emotional brain through olfaction (our sense of smell) and act as clearers of emotional baggage, uplift, improve mood, and lower depression?

A. Because of the active chemical constituents found naturally therein, and the way our noses are wired into the brain.

Did you know that we do not actually smell with our noses, but rather, with our brain?

olfactory-limbic-bw-graphic

We “smell” with our olfactory system – the nerves that connect directly to the amygdala, the “diencephalon” – or Limbic System. It involves several organs, including the thalamus, hypothalamus, pineal gland, and pituitary gland, all known as the central brain or “emotional brain” and includes not only neural cortex, but endocrine glands as well. It functions, therefore, both electrically and chemically via hormones. (Not surprising to learn that the emotional brain secretes hormones, while the intellectual brain does not).

The Limbic system is the storage center for our feelings and emotional experiences. This part of our brain cannot be communicated to with spoken or written language. Because it responds only to smell, therapeutic grade essential oils provide a powerful means to contact this non-verbal portion of our brains.

Commenting on how the emotional brain works, Dr. David Stewart, Ph.D., D.N.M., writes, “Think of the central brain as a librarian that files and catalogues our emotional memories. Our body is the library. Whenever we experience an emotion, the central brain takes it and files it somewhere in  your body. It could be in your heart, your intestines, your lungs, a specific joint or muscle, or some organ like the liver or kidneys. In order to recall and access that memory, the emotional brain (the librarian) has to locate it in its card index and call it up from wherever it has been stacked in your body. It can then pass it on to the frontal lobes of your brain where it can be consciously recalled, revitalized, re-experienced, and/or articulated.”2

Specific molecular constituents in therapeutic grade essential oils, because of their infinitesimally small size, have the ability not only to cross the blood-brain barrier, but also to stimulate this center of emotions, uplifting, relieving, and releasing deep buried emotion and grief, improving mental awareness, depression, and attitude.

These active molecules are in three classes of oxygenated hydrocarbons, including terpenes, phenols and phenylpropanoids.
The molecular chemistry of properly distilled Frankincense essential oil, for example, includes up to 82% Monoterpenes, a most important group of oxygenated hydrocarbons found in essential oils, thought to restore or awaken the correct information in the cell’s memory (DNA). Other essential oils high in Monoterpenes include those properly distilled from Citrus peel (Lemon / Orange / Grapefruit / Bergamot), Cypress, Black Pepper, Lavender, Rosemary, Juniper, Ravintsara, and Fir. 3  In terms of the aromatherapeutic properties of essential oils Monoterpenes tend to be analgesic, antiseptic, decongestant, and to act as driver oils amplifying the effects of a previously applied oil.4
Myrrh, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Vetiver, and Ylang Ylang essential oils, when properly harvested, distilled, and bottled, are high in Sesquiterpenes, another group of infinitesimally small oxygenated hydrocarbon molecules, thought to actually delete or erase the bad, miswritten information from cellular memory (DNA), or unscramble it so cells can function normally. Aromatherapeutic properties of Sesquiterpenes include being analgesic, sedative, anti-anxiety, and antidepressant.5
Therapeutic grade essential oils also contain purgative Phenolic compounds. Phenols and phenylpropanoids have a purifying effect cleaning the Receptor Sites at the cellular level, and are thought to be the initiators of healing processes. Full of energy and very stimulating, Phenols have a purifying effect at the cellular level, cleaning cellular receptor sites, and clearing the way for the many other types of healing compounds in the oils to carry out their divinely designated assignments. Clove bud essential oil contains 67% Phenolic compounds, not to mention it’s incredibly high Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity rating. Other therapeutic grade essential oils high in Phenolic compounds include Cinnamon, Thyme, Tarragon, Basil, Fennel, and Oregano.

In a November 2011 in the Yale Scientific Magazine, Cynthia Deng explains how essential oil molecules stimulate olfactory receptors and are linked to specific memories…

“Olfactory sensory neurons carry the signals from the receptors to the olfactory bulb, which filters and begins processing the input signals of the [essential oil]. Mitral cells then carry the output signals from the olfactory bulb to the olfactory cortex, which allows you to perceive and recognize the [scent of that specific aromatic]…Interestingly, the mitral cells do not only lead to the olfactory cortex, they also carry the signals from the [essential oil] to other areas in the brain’s limbic system. Some mitral cells connect directly to the amygdala, the brain structure involved in emotional learning and memory. Indeed, the olfactory system is the only sensory system that involves the amygdala and the limbic system in its primary processing pathway. This link explains why smells are often linked to specific memories.”6

In an August 2016 article posted on ‘Aces Too High News’, science reporter Donna Jackson Nakazawa asks another century-old Question….
Q. “…Shouldn’t physicians consider the whole patient – body and mind – so that they can suggest [behavioural] health tools that will alleviate both the root causes and the symptoms of disease?”7
Research begun in 1996 and over 1500 peer-reviewed studies since, have replicated the same findings…that women who faced three types of childhood adversity had a 60% greater risk of being hospitalized with an auto-immune disease as an adult.
Similar links exist between childhood stressors and adult heart disease, diabetes, migraines, irritable bowel disease, cancer, and depression.
Nakazawa writes, “All disease is multifactorial. Past trauma is one of those factors. I can’t help but think of how my own story might have been different if the medical community had been trauma-aware…and had offered therapeutic interventions.”8
A. Unadulterated therapeutic grade essential oils provide an answer to how we might be able to help ourselves to better health and to non-medically offload deep burried emotional experience, trauma, and grief.

The Adulteration of an Essential Oil

Many of us realize by now, through practical experience, that a label declaring ‘100% pure’ on an essential oil bottle is not a guarantee that the contents are genuine or indeed pure.

What Is The Meaning Of Adulteration in the World Of

Essential Oils?

To adulterate something means that it has been made impure by adding a foreign or inferior ingredient or substance. In the context of preparing to sell a product to the marketplace, adulteration means you are intentionally debasing that product by replacing higher value ingredients with less valuable ingredients – a practice widely used and accepted within the perfume industry (the biggest user of essential oils) in order to have the same chemical makeup and aroma from one batch of perfume to the next, year after year. So that the 1.7 oz bottle of Coco Chanel, for example, which you purchased three years ago for over $150. will smell exactly like the new bottle you are replacing it with.

Pure aromatic / essential oils distilled from plants are genuinely inconsistent in their chemical makeup. This is due to the environmental conditions and location in which those plants were grown.

“The fixing [‘putting right’ or ‘cleaning up’] of these inconsistencies by the perfumer”, writes Angela Eksteins of the Natural News Website, “is carried out so the end product is exactly what the perfumer wants…A good example of this is wine – we all know there are good and bad years with wine, and the same applies to the plants from which we obtain precious essential oils. The chemical makeup of the oil will differ based on environmental conditions, and where in the world it is grown”. 1.4.

Eksteins writes that adulterated oils intended as fragrance oils for the perfume industry, enter into the supply chain and are being sold to consumers as pure and genuine oils. She states that this, of course, raises many safety issues [regarding application of an essential oil].

Given that there are many, many naturally occurring components or chemical constituents (often hundreds of compounds within a single distilled oil!), a pure and genuine essential oil must exist as a whole with its original compounds working together synergistically giving that oil its own unique properties and effectiveness in therapeutic use. Adulterating an essential oil will therefore, alter its natural synergy and diminish its therapeutic benefits.

4 Grades of Essential Oils

Four grades of essential oils are produced today:

  1. Synthetic or nature-identical oils are commonplace in the market and can be created cheaply in a laboratory and sold for a very low price.
  2. Extended or altered oils are ‘fragrance grade’. Used in the perfume & cosmetic industry, and account for 98% of plant-based oils produced today.
  3. Natural” oils, “organic” and “certified” oils – pass oil-standard tests but may not contain many or any therapeutic compounds – may be grown in chemical free environment but are not concerned with exactness of harvest time or distillation to maximize therapeutic potency of the oil. An oil may be labeled “100% pure” but have sub-therapeutic values as well as GMO contamination. It may be adulterated and diluted with synthetic and inorganic ingredients. It may also be a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or even 5th distillation oil. FDA regulations allow essential oils to be labeled as 100% pure so long as they contain at least 5% of the actual oil alleged to be in the bottle. Some “100%” brands really are pure. Others are not. You can smell the difference.
  4. Therapeutic-grade essential oils are pure, medicinal, steam-distilled, 1st distillation only essential oil, containing ALL desired therapeutic compounds. It’s imp. to understand that only 2% of EO’s produced in the world today can be applied to achieve therapeutic or medicinal benefits.

Common Ways In Which Essential Oils Are Adulterated:

  • Addition of a cheaper oil (less expensive and less effective) to replace a more effective or expensive oil, often due to inavailabilty of the more expensive oil
  • Extension or ‘stretching’, with the addition of alcohol (difficult for even an experienced nose to detect a difference in the aroma)
  • Addition of other essential oil isolates, such as orange or lemon ‘terpenes’ which are available in huge quantities at very low cost to the procurer.
  • Addition of colourless and odourless synthetic compounds such as dipropylene glycol (DPG) often used to extend lavender oil
  • Addition of mineral oil, or a vegetable oil such as a very cheap Rapeseed oil (from a non-food grade variety of flaxseed)

Examples of Commonly Adulterated Essential Oils:

  • PEPPERMINT – the most adulterated oil, usually adulterated with cornmint.
  • YLANG YLANG – easily adulterated with Peru balsam, cananga oil, or inferior fractionated and synthetic oils
  • PATCHOULI – often cut with castor oil, balsam, clove, cedarwood, citrus terpenes (as mentioned above), vetiver residues, and others
  • LAVENDER – often adulterated with acetylated lavandin, synthetic linalool, linalyl acetate, fractionated ho leaf, and aspic
  • LEMON – extended with BHT (butylated hydroxyanisole) and BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) synthetic antioxidants used as preservatives in lipsticks and moisturizers, among other cosmetics, addition of orange or lemon terpenes, or synthetic limonene
  • JASMINE – commonly adulterated or synthesized with ylang-ylang, cinnamic aldehyde, and benzyl acetate
  • GERANIUM – often cut with citronella, palmarosa, and synthetic components
  • SANDALWOOD – often cut with castor oil, copaiba, amirs, araucaria, or cedarwood

Know Your Purveyor!

“Know your purveyor”, writes Nerys Purchon, leading expert on essential oils. 2

“Lack of regulation within the essential oil industry means consumers should arm themselves with the knowledge of adulteration and take steps to ensure they are buying genuine essential oils, with full therapeutic benefits. Using pure, genuine essential oils means less is needed in order for the oil to be effective. This is easily forgotten when we are motivated to buy oils on the false economy of price. The possibilities for adulteration and contamination increase with the number of times an essential oil changes hands in the production cycle. The ordinary consumer should therefore make themselves aware of the supply chain, along with the reputation and standards of both the retailer and the supplier of the essential oil. A number of laboratory tests can determine if an essential oil has been adulterated but independent testing, especially for buyers of very small quantities, is a very expensive exercise.” 3

How Can You Detect the Adulteration of an Essential Oil?

How can I know if the essential oil I am inhaling, applying on myself, my family, my clients, and in some cases even ingesting as a dietary supplement, is unadulterated? Especially when the adulteration can be so highly sophisticated and virtually impossible to detect without expert testing and analysis?

Warning signs of adulterated oils that consumers can look for:

  1. VISIBLE SIGNS:  VISCOSITY (a material’s resistance to flow; for example, honey has a much higher viscosity than water) – increased viscosity in essential oils can indicate oxidation, i.e. that an oil has ‘aged’. Some oils are naturally more viscous – Sandalwood essential oil, for example, is harder to get drops out of a bottle than lemon essential oil which flows very freely.  Viscosity test: Place a drop of the essential oil on a piece of blotting paper or white cloth. If the oil is fresh and less viscous it will drop from the bottle very quickly and spread quickly on the blotting paper or cloth. If an oil has become more viscous it will take longer to drop from the bottle and will not spread quickly on the blotting paper or cloth. See Image 1 below.                                                                                             CLOUDY APPEARANCE, along with increased viscosity may indicate an adulterated oil on its way to becoming rancid. Pure unadulterated essential oils have no expiry date and are not subject to rancidity.
  2. SMELL:  As you become more familiar with how genuine essential oils should smell, you will find it easier to detect those which have been extended, diluted, and altered, and certainly those which have become rancid, most often due to the addition of a ‘fixed’ or non-volatile vegetable oil such as olive oil. Use the same test under point #1 above, to check the potency and purity of the aroma left behind once an oil has evaporated from a blotting paper or cloth – you should be able to smell the essential oil’s aroma for two to four hours after it has evaporated and is no longer visible on the blotting paper or cloth. See Image 2 below. In Image 2, the circle on the right had negligible aroma left after 4 hours, whereas the circle on the left had significant aroma left after 4 hours, and detectable aroma 8 hours after the essential oil drop had evaporated.
  3. COST: The time it takes and difficulty to harvest the plant material from which an essential oil is distilled or pressed, whether the plant is seasonal, and its yield during harvest time, are all factors in the cost of that essential oil. How much plant material is needed to produce that essential oil? Rose oil is expensive because it takes thousands of pounds of rose petals to produce a pound of oil. Sacred Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) is expensive because of its limited accessibility in the world and the tedious process by which the resin is harvested from the trees prior to distillation. When it comes to genuine essential oils, cost is definitely an indication of purity.
  4. SIMPLE TEST FOR ADULTERATION WITH A FIXED OIL (e.g. a vegetable oil)Place a drop of the essential oil on a piece of blotting paper or white cloth. If a fixed oil is present it will leave a greasy ring once the essential oil has evaporated. See Image 2 below – neither of the essential oils represented appear to have been adulterated with a fixed oil.
LEFT: Image #1:  *Viscosity Test / ***Fixed Oil Test phase one
RIGHT: Image #2:   **Smell Test / & ***Fixed Oil Test phase two
* In Image 1, the oil on the left had very low viscosity (i.e. dropped from the bottle quickly and spread very quickly across the blotting paper). The oil on the right had a much higher viscosity (i.e. dropped much more slowly from the bottle and did not spread on the blotting paper).
** In Image 2, the circle on the right had  almost negligible aroma left after 4 hours, whereas the circle on the left had significant aroma left after 4 hours, and detectable aroma 8 hours after the essential oil drop had evaporated.
*** In Image 2, neither of the oils left greasy ring once the essential oil drop had evaporated.

How can you really know if the essential oils you are purchasing are authentic and unadulterated?

The best way to know what you are consuming is to purchase essential oils from a company which has a reputation for pure authentic essential oils, that never accepts diluted, cut, or adulterated oils, that carefully monitors the production of it’s oils from beginning to end, and that includes both in-house laboratory testingand testing by third-party facilities.

Almost two decades ago Young Living was the first to establish guidelines that define what therapeutic essential oils are that meet or exceed any know medicinal standard.

Young Living Essential Oils is the only company dedicated to the medicinal use and application of essential oils that is able to guarantee essential oil quality from SEED to SEAL.

Oxygenate and Energize with Genuine Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils

Mortar with medicine cross, fresh herbs and essential oil bottle

The first thing to consider regarding an essential oil, is where it comes from. Essential oils are the natural, volatile liquids that are extracted from plants – a wide variety, including trees, grasses, shrubs, flowers, herbs, fruits, berries, and seeds. The oils have the characteristic fragrance of the plants from which they are extracted, but their therapeutic benefits go beyond our olfactory system or sense of smell! So you want to know where your oils come from – what seed variety was grown, how the plants are cultivated, distilled, tested, and how the oils are bottled and sealed. Is attention being given to quality and sustainability? You do not want oils that have been adulterated or diluted. You want the purest essential oil from seed – to seal.

Different extraction methods are used for different types of plant material. Essential oils from herbaceous plants are generally distilled, fruits are cold pressed, resin from trees and shrubs is collected and distilled, and ‘absolute’ oils from delicate flower petals are extracted using pure alcohol which is removed through evaporation.

In come cases it takes an enormous amount of plant material to produce an essential oil. On the extreme end, it takes 4000 pounds of Bulgarian roses to produce one pound of rose absolute essential oil. And 100 pounds of Lavender plant to produce one pound of Lavender essential oil.

Biochemical Diversity of Plants and the Human Body:

Each essential oil is typically a complex mixture of often hundreds of individual compounds, just as each species of plant the oils are extracted from are chemically very heterogeneous or diverse in their effect, unlike synthetic manmade chemicals that have basically one action.

It is this biochemical diversity of the plants themselves that explains the wide array of beneficial effects an essential oil may have on the human body. A single drop of pure lavender essential oil, for example, can be antiseptic, calming, help with allergies, and alleviate headaches, PMS, and motion sickness.

Essential Oils Increase Oxygen Intake:

Plants in nature are chemical factories! They take in the elements of the earth and sun, converting them into molecules including carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. These are the basic fuels which we break down to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which is the ‘high octane’ fuel in the human body. Essential oils contain oxygen and glycosides which convert into glucose in the human body, which is the raw material for ATP.

We know that the immune system can be greatly improved by the general increase in movement of blood which carries oxygen to our cells, and by the decrease of the viscosity of the blood in our body. Enhanced circulation and is vital to good health as it effects the function of every cell, and thus every organ including the brain.

cell-oxygen

Oxygen is essential to provide efficient energy and nutrient transfer to every cell of our body. Constituents in essential oils have been proven not only to increase oxygen intake of the cells but also to enhance cellular respiration. Increasing circulation in general will increase blood oxygen and cellular respiration. But when combined with essential oils containing oxygenating molecules, cellular and organ function are significantly improved.

Oxygen is also the enemy of many things that are harmful to the body. Bacteria, for example, does not require oxygen for growth and will react negatively or even die if oxygen is present.

The Itty Bitty Nitty Gritty:

When two or more atoms join together they become a molecule. Essential oils are made up of molecule groups. There are many different chemical constituents that make up a single essential oil. Individual essential oils may have anywhere from 200 to 800 different constituents! Specific molecular constituents in essential oils known as aldehydes, ketones, and esters, protect their oxygenating molecules.

Ketones & Aldehydes

The value of using ONLY genuine

Therapeutic Grade essential oils:

More and more people are returning to essential oils for health and wellbeing and will continue to do so as scientific research, anecdotal and clinical research continues to demonstrate their effectiveness.

However, in order for an oil to possess all of its beneficial chemical constituents, and have the energy capacity one would expect from that specific oil – it must be grown from organic non-GMO seed, in just the right soil, cultivated just the right way, properly distilled, and tested and bottled with a SEED to SEAL promise of all of the aforementioned. The ONLY company with the experience and testing that can guarantee this  with every oil they put into the hands of its members (serving both wholesale and retail customers) is Young Living Essential Oils.

ESSENTIAL OIL CONSTITUENTS THAT WORK AT THE DNA LEVEL OF YOUR BODY:   The human body has an amazing affinity with the chemical constituents found in nature! The two basics groups of chemical constituents found in plants are ‘hydrocarbons’, and ‘oxygenating compounds’, including  Phenols, Terpenes (Sesquiterpenes and Monoterpenes) Esters, Aldehydes, Ketones, and Flavonoids. Some of these constituents actually work at the DNA level in the human body.                                                                                                                 DNA strand

Phenols have a purifying effect cleaning the Receptor Sites at the cellular level.

Sesquiterpenes delete bad information from cellular memory, or unscramble it so cells can function normally.

Monoterpenes mend or restore, or awaken the correct information in the cell memory.See the chart below for a more detailed description of these amazing molecules.

EO's Inhalation vs Topical

Certainly the body has an affinity with nature’s essential oils, which absorb and pass through the body with great ease. Many scientific experiments have shown that essential oils can travel with relative speed when applied to the skin or inhaled.

Essential oil molecules are so microscopic that they can penetrate the fatty layers of the skin. The lipid solubility of essential oils allows them to travel transcellularly or directly through the cells.

Essential oils will go into the body in just 2-3 seconds. It takes only twenty-two seconds for essential oil molecules to reach the brain, and two minutes until they can be found in the bloodstream. Essential oils will saturate the entire cellular matrix within twenty-one minutes.

Their penetrating ability through fatty tissue layers into the interstitial fluids may explain why essential oils enhance circulation and why massaging the skin with essential oils can be so beneficial.

Our Electrical Capacity, Dis-eases, Dis-orders, and Essential Oils:

Lastly, it is important to learn that the body frequency in a healthy person is higher than in someone who is not. Healthy cells in the human body have a certain energetic frequency. And the things we consume affect our body frequency.

What gives us this ‘electrical capacity’? There’s a slight imbalance between potassium and sodium ions inside and outside our cells, and this imbalance sets the stage for our electrical capacity. You’re probably familiar with the water soluble ‘electrolyte’ minerals, calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which also have the ability to carry an electrical charge in cellular fluids, enabling the synapses to work between nerves and the smooth running of our muscles.

synapse

Because of these ‘electrical or energetic’ ways in which our bodies work, our health can be greatly affected by high or low frequencies within the body. It makes sense, therefore, that we can affect change by introducing different or higher frequencies, and in doing so, prevent, treat, or cure our own dis-eases, and dis-orders. Scientists have discovered that each illness has a different frequency which is always within a definite range, and that administering higher frequency treatments, unhealthy or diseased cells regain complete vital force while healthy cells in that same area are not affected.

How can essential oils affect energetic frequency with our body? Protons which are electrically positive, and electrons which carry the electrically negative charge, create electrical frequencies that are measurable in essential oils. In fact, clinical research shows that essential oils have some of the highest frequencies of any substance known to man, creating an environment in which disease cannot live:
