BEES & OILS: A Short Story

BEES & OILS

by Diana E. Natalie Johnson

When you have a pear tree that bears forty dozen, you pick pears, give away pears, and cut up lots and lots of pears. You soak them in bowls of water with Lemon essential oil so they don’t oxidize and turn brown. Then you freeze those pears, so you can eat pears all winter long in yummy pear crumble with a drop of Nutmeg Vitality™ or Clove in the recipe. But still there are more pears…which fall to the ground, and BEES LOVE THEM!

Your excess pears, the one’s you haven’t given away yet, are sitting in a bin in your garage, where a couple of resourceful bees are hiding. Your friend drops something off and gets stung by one of the garage bees. So you grab some Lavender and Purification® essential oils for her to stop the sting!

It gets trickier because some of the pears inevitable begin to spoil so you place them into green waste, where the bees find them, and as we well know, when one bee finds a treasure, he sends a miraculous signal to the whole team, and you have a swarm around your pile of rotting pears! So you make a spray bottle with Lemongrass and Citronella and Peppermint essential oils.

You spray the bees away from the area long enough to do the only other thing you can think to do…grab a shovel and throw dirt over the rotting pears. But you somehow strain your low back doing this. Your favourite essential oil pain blends come in real handy in the bath that night…AromaSiez™ (7 drops in a handful of Epsom Salt), and Deep Relief™ topically applied and massaged in before bed. You load your Dewdrop™ ultrasonic diffuser with Lavender and Cedarwood for melatonin production, and have the best night’s sleep.

The next morning your back is feeling better but the bees are back hovering over your squishy pear dirt pile so you arm yourself with your super effective natural insect repellent spray made with essential oils and wait until dusk to shovel the whole mess into a green bag and tie it tight until frostier days arrive.

With a sigh of relief, you prepare for bed, loading your diffuser with Lavender and Cedarwood essential oil as always, so you can get the best sleep and dream of next year’s pear harvest.

How To Use Essential Oils

Essential-oil-drop

Using Your Oils

This guide will help you to understand the variety of ways in which you can experience the wellness-enhancing benefits of pure Young Living Essential Oils.

Not all essential oils are created equally.  In fact, 98% of essential oils on the market today are substandard and are to be avoided for use in the ways outlined within this article. We trust the unmatched quality of Young Living Essential Oil products. Young Living Essential Oils global stewardship and SEED to SEAL® promise of purity offers us safe genuine therapeutic grade essential oils free of synthetic additives or chemicals.

Young Living is a transparent global company with the largest selection of essential oils and oil-infused products available, empowering you to ditch harmful chemicals from your routine, to energize your home & personal care, and to enjoy natural vibrancy.

Young Living has over a quarter-century experience and is the pioneer & world leader in essential oil research and distillation.

Young Living’s reputation and integrity in the global production of essential oils goes beyond “organic”.

Because of Young Living’s SEED to SEAL™ guarantee and commitment to excellence they can promise purity in each of these five careful steps from their seed lines, to soils and farming practices, to planting and harvesting under optimal conditions, to the essential oil extraction using proprietary methodology, to strict analytical testing, to labelling and bottling the oils you receive.

Because of their purity Young Living essential oils are potent. Some are not intended to be applied to sensitive tissues and some essential oils can have possible skin sensitivity. Dilution with a carrier oil (see Topical Application below) is always recommended. Young Living essential oils are extremely versatile and may be used effectively in a variety of ways. Not all essential oils, however, are considered to be GRAS (generally regarded as safe). Please check with the Young Living website http://www.YoungLiving.com or look to your user manual or the definitive Essential Oils Desk Reference ~ 7th Edition (Life Science Publishing) for further safety guidelines.
GREAT NEWS! Young Living is the WORLD LEADER in essential oils and many are approved by Health Canada as NHP Products (Natural Health Products) known to relieve symptoms associated with common ailments, and to maintain and support good health.

Inhalation

Guidelines for inhaling your pure YL Essential Oils:

  • Inhale directly—simply smell them right in the bottle. OR place a drop or two in the palm of your hand, and either rub or clap your hands together to distribute the oil molecules, then cupping hands to face, breath deeply.
  • Diffuse essential oil using a diffuser, such as the ‘Dewdrop’ essential oil ultrasonic humidifying diffuser which comes with your Young Living Premium Starter Kit. A quality diffuser will disperse the oil into the air within an extremely fine vapour. The diffuser does not heat the oils, thus ensuring full benefits. It is important to note that extreme heat can damage important constituents in essential oils.                                  IMG_0690
  • Use essential oils with a humidifier, but do not put essential oils in your humidifier, as they will float on top of the water rather than rising with the vapour. Instead, place a tissue or cloth sprinkled with a few drops of oil in front of the escaping steam or mist to help disperse the aroma into the room.
  • You may also pour hot (not boiling) water into a bowl and add a few drops of essential oil. Lean your head over the bowl, covering your head and the bowl with a towel, like a ‘tent’. Breathe deeply and slowly.

For use in bath water for both inhalation and topical benefits, add a few drops of pure essential oil to a quarter cup of ‘Epsom Salt’ (magnesium sulfate) or a coarse grey sea salt and stir well to make a ‘bath salt’ carrier for your oil. This prevents the precious oil from simply floating on top of the bath water or sticking to the edge of the bath tub.

Topical Application

Simple steps for the topical application of pure YL essential oils:

  • Topically, some essential oils can be applied straight or “neat” with no dilution, but most should be diluted 50/50 (one to one part with carrier oil such as coconut, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, or YL’s V-6 Complex). This will give your pure oils greater coverage on larger areas. Sweet almond oil is ideal because it is similar to the natural oil in our skin.
  • Some of the most potent EO blends should be diluted 20/80 (1 to 4 with carrier oil or YL’s V-6 Complex) before applying to the skin, and should be kept out of reach of children. Young Living’s DiGize and Thieves blends in the Starter Kit fall into this category.
  • Milder oils such as Lavender and Copaiba (also found in the Young Living Premium Starter Kit) do not need to be diluted, may be applied straight, and are safe for children over 2 years old.
  • Using a reliable reference book, such as the Desk Reference mentioned above, or a reliable online resource can help to know how best to use your oils.
  • If the essential oil or blend you are using may be used straight without a carrier oil, carefully place 2 to 3 drops in the palm of your hand and apply to desired application area, or place drops directly on the desired area.
  • When dropping oil into your hand, rub your palms together in a clockwise circular motion and then massage the oil into the desired point of application. If applying directly to the desired area, use your hand to massage the oil in a circular motion into the skin.
  • NOTE: Most of the pure essential oils in your YL Premium Starter Kit are for both aromatic and topical use. Some pure essential oils, however, are very potent and some may be irritating to the skin. If irritation occurs, immediately apply pure vegetable oil such as YL V-6™ Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex, or other quality carrier oil, such as sweet almond oil to the area to dilute. Please read label directions for each individual oil before using on skin.

Internal Consumption

Many essential oils may be used as food flavorings or dietary supplements. Before using any essential oil for internal consumption, however, first research your oil for it’s therapeutic benefits and to find out whether or not it is one you may ingest. The definitive ‘Essential Oils Desk Reference ~ 7th Edition‘ (Life Science Publishing) is a great resource. Young Living’s Vitality™ line of dietary essential oils gives you the freedom to share and explore some of our best-loved essential oils in a variety of nutritious and delicious ways.

  • Use to naturally flavour your favourite recipes.
  • Place drops of an internally consumable pure essential oil into an empty capsule and swallow the capsule with water.
  • OR add 1–2 drops to a glass of almond milk, or rice milk OR to a teaspoon of Agave Nectar or Honey, OR a spoonful of applesauce or yogurt OR add to a blender smoothie.
  • Place a drop on the end of your thumb or index finger and rub on the roof of your mouth. Use caution with this method as many essential oils are potent and better diluted as described above. Be sure the essential oil is GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) for use in this manner.Starter Kit Aug2017

Oxygenate and Energize with Genuine Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils

Mortar with medicine cross, fresh herbs and essential oil bottle

The first thing to consider regarding an essential oil, is where it comes from. Essential oils are the natural, volatile liquids that are extracted from plants – a wide variety, including trees, grasses, shrubs, flowers, herbs, fruits, berries, and seeds. The oils have the characteristic fragrance of the plants from which they are extracted, but their therapeutic benefits go beyond our olfactory system or sense of smell! So you want to know where your oils come from – what seed variety was grown, how the plants are cultivated, distilled, tested, and how the oils are bottled and sealed. Is attention being given to quality and sustainability? You do not want oils that have been adulterated or diluted. You want the purest essential oil from seed – to seal.

Different extraction methods are used for different types of plant material. Essential oils from herbaceous plants are generally distilled, fruits are cold pressed, resin from trees and shrubs is collected and distilled, and ‘absolute’ oils from delicate flower petals are extracted using pure alcohol which is removed through evaporation.

In come cases it takes an enormous amount of plant material to produce an essential oil. On the extreme end, it takes 4000 pounds of Bulgarian roses to produce one pound of rose absolute essential oil. And 100 pounds of Lavender plant to produce one pound of Lavender essential oil.

Biochemical Diversity of Plants and the Human Body:

Each essential oil is typically a complex mixture of often hundreds of individual compounds, just as each species of plant the oils are extracted from are chemically very heterogeneous or diverse in their effect, unlike synthetic manmade chemicals that have basically one action.

It is this biochemical diversity of the plants themselves that explains the wide array of beneficial effects an essential oil may have on the human body. A single drop of pure lavender essential oil, for example, can be antiseptic, calming, help with allergies, and alleviate headaches, PMS, and motion sickness.

Essential Oils Increase Oxygen Intake:

Plants in nature are chemical factories! They take in the elements of the earth and sun, converting them into molecules including carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. These are the basic fuels which we break down to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which is the ‘high octane’ fuel in the human body. Essential oils contain oxygen and glycosides which convert into glucose in the human body, which is the raw material for ATP.

We know that the immune system can be greatly improved by the general increase in movement of blood which carries oxygen to our cells, and by the decrease of the viscosity of the blood in our body. Enhanced circulation and is vital to good health as it effects the function of every cell, and thus every organ including the brain.

cell-oxygen

Oxygen is essential to provide efficient energy and nutrient transfer to every cell of our body. Constituents in essential oils have been proven not only to increase oxygen intake of the cells but also to enhance cellular respiration. Increasing circulation in general will increase blood oxygen and cellular respiration. But when combined with essential oils containing oxygenating molecules, cellular and organ function are significantly improved.

Oxygen is also the enemy of many things that are harmful to the body. Bacteria, for example, does not require oxygen for growth and will react negatively or even die if oxygen is present.

The Itty Bitty Nitty Gritty:

When two or more atoms join together they become a molecule. Essential oils are made up of molecule groups. There are many different chemical constituents that make up a single essential oil. Individual essential oils may have anywhere from 200 to 800 different constituents! Specific molecular constituents in essential oils known as aldehydes, ketones, and esters, protect their oxygenating molecules.

Ketones & Aldehydes

The value of using ONLY genuine

Therapeutic Grade essential oils:

More and more people are returning to essential oils for health and wellbeing and will continue to do so as scientific research, anecdotal and clinical research continues to demonstrate their effectiveness.

However, in order for an oil to possess all of its beneficial chemical constituents, and have the energy capacity one would expect from that specific oil – it must be grown from organic non-GMO seed, in just the right soil, cultivated just the right way, properly distilled, and tested and bottled with a SEED to SEAL promise of all of the aforementioned. The ONLY company with the experience and testing that can guarantee this  with every oil they put into the hands of its members (serving both wholesale and retail customers) is Young Living Essential Oils.

ESSENTIAL OIL CONSTITUENTS THAT WORK AT THE DNA LEVEL OF YOUR BODY:   The human body has an amazing affinity with the chemical constituents found in nature! The two basics groups of chemical constituents found in plants are ‘hydrocarbons’, and ‘oxygenating compounds’, including  Phenols, Terpenes (Sesquiterpenes and Monoterpenes) Esters, Aldehydes, Ketones, and Flavonoids. Some of these constituents actually work at the DNA level in the human body.                                                                                                                 DNA strand

Phenols have a purifying effect cleaning the Receptor Sites at the cellular level.

Sesquiterpenes delete bad information from cellular memory, or unscramble it so cells can function normally.

Monoterpenes mend or restore, or awaken the correct information in the cell memory.See the chart below for a more detailed description of these amazing molecules.

EO Molecules Chart (1)

EO's Inhalation vs Topical

Certainly the body has an affinity with nature’s essential oils, which absorb and pass through the body with great ease. Many scientific experiments have shown that essential oils can travel with relative speed when applied to the skin or inhaled.

Essential oil molecules are so microscopic that they can penetrate the fatty layers of the skin. The lipid solubility of essential oils allows them to travel transcellularly or directly through the cells.

Essential oils will go into the body in just 2-3 seconds. It takes only twenty-two seconds for essential oil molecules to reach the brain, and two minutes until they can be found in the bloodstream. Essential oils will saturate the entire cellular matrix within twenty-one minutes.

Their penetrating ability through fatty tissue layers into the interstitial fluids may explain why essential oils enhance circulation and why massaging the skin with essential oils can be so beneficial.

Our Electrical Capacity, Dis-eases, Dis-orders, and Essential Oils:

Lastly, it is important to learn that the body frequency in a healthy person is higher than in someone who is not. Healthy cells in the human body have a certain energetic frequency. And the things we consume affect our body frequency.

What gives us this ‘electrical capacity’? There’s a slight imbalance between potassium and sodium ions inside and outside our cells, and this imbalance sets the stage for our electrical capacity. You’re probably familiar with the water soluble ‘electrolyte’ minerals, calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which also have the ability to carry an electrical charge in cellular fluids, enabling the synapses to work between nerves and the smooth running of our muscles.

synapse

Because of these ‘electrical or energetic’ ways in which our bodies work, our health can be greatly affected by high or low frequencies within the body. It makes sense, therefore, that we can affect change by introducing different or higher frequencies, and in doing so, prevent, treat, or cure our own dis-eases, and dis-orders. Scientists have discovered that each illness has a different frequency which is always within a definite range, and that administering higher frequency treatments, unhealthy or diseased cells regain complete vital force while healthy cells in that same area are not affected.

How can essential oils affect energetic frequency with our body? Protons which are electrically positive, and electrons which carry the electrically negative charge, create electrical frequencies that are measurable in essential oils. In fact, clinical research shows that essential oils have some of the highest frequencies of any substance known to man, creating an environment in which disease cannot live:
