Marjoram

Known as the “herb of happiness” and “joy of the mountains” to the Romans and the Greeks, Marjoram was believed to increase longevity.

Marjoram, part of the Labiatea (mint) botanical family, was listed in the Materia Medica (AD 78), the standard reference for medicines and herbal treatments for over 1,700 years. It was also listed in Hildegard’s Medicine, a compilation of German medicines by Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179).

Today, Marjoram’s known medicinal properties include it’s muscle-soothing properties, and help in relieving joint discomforts. Marjoram may also soothe digestion, is generally relaxing to the body, calming to the nervous system, and may help with respiratory care relieving cough and cold symptoms.

With it’s herbaceous warm spicy aroma, Marjoram is a beautiful essential oil to use diluted in a carrier oil for massage, or to add to therapeutic baths ~ by adding a few drops to a handful of Epsom Salt (magnesium sulfate) and tossing them into your bath water.
