Since I took the cap of my first bottle of Young Living pure Ylang Ylang essential oil, I’ve dreamed of one day participating in an early morning harvest of these intoxicatingly fragrant yellow blossoms at the Young Living farm in Ecuador! It is no wonder Ylang Ylang literally means “flower of flowers”.

In June 2011, Young Living cleared land on lush fertile soil at their Guayaquil, Ecuador farm for 24,000 Ylang Ylang seedlings. By June 2013, the trees had matured into large bushy trees producing flowers year around. The farm expanded to 48,000 trees in 2013. The farm now houses the largest state-of-the-art distillery in South America. Other aromatic plants grown and distilled at the farm include Dorado Azul, Ruta, Oregano, Eucalyptus Blue, Lemongrass, Vetiver,  Ocotea, and Palo Santo. Acres of rice, numerous vegetables and fruit galore is grown onsite including a banana and mango plantation. The farm houses a school, restaurant, spa, and goat dairy. Organic tropical fruit juices are made daily as well as organic goat cheese, milk, and yogurt. Staff, students, workers, and visitors all eat nutritious meals every day on site.

Ylang Ylang essential oil is steam distilled on-site from the flowers, picked early in the morning to maximize the oil yield. The first distillation oil is of the highest quality and is known as Ylang Ylang Complete.

Prized for its sweet, sensual fragrance, Ylang Ylang essential oil has a traditional use promoting healthy, shiny, lustrous hair. Well researched and documented, today its uses include many therapeutic applications  – depression, anxiety, cardiac problems, hypertension, hair loss, and intestinal problems.

It’s medicinal properties include antispasmodic (prevent spasms), vasodilating (dilate small blood vessels), anti-inflammatory, and ability to regulate heartbeat.

Ylang Ylang’s chemical composition is over 40 percent Sesquiterpenes ~ molecules identified for their anti-inflammatory effect, their ability to deliver oxygen to cells and actually erase miswritten codes at the DNA level. An essential oil high in Sesquiterpenes may be beneficial in multiple ways – it may be analgesic, anti-anxiety, antidepressant, sedative, antispasmodic, antifungal and antiseptic.

Ylang Ylang’s fragrant influence (via the olfactory system connected to the amygdala, or limbic/emotional brain) is known to be balancing, peaceful, able to combat anger, low self esteem, and filter negative energy, restore confidence and increase libido.

Essential oils provide a powerful means to contact this non-verbal portion of the brain including the thalamus, hypothalamus, pineal, and pituitary glands. These endocrine glands control things we are not always aware of such as heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, sex hormones, and stress levels.

Cautions: Use Ylang Ylang sparingly if you have low blood pressure.

Application Techniques:

TOPICAL ~ Dilute 1 part YLTG Ylang Ylang essential oil with 1 part carrier oil such as V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex or other pure vegetable oil such as coconut, or sweet almond oil. Apply to skin, on VitaFlex points, or on location of a spasm or inflammation. OR Apply 2-4 drops directly to desired area. Dilution not required, except for the most sensitive skin. Use as needed.
