Invigorating and used effectively for centuries, Peppermint is one of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs used to relieve headaches, cool the skin, freshen breath, and soothe digestive difficulties.

Just one drop of Young Living’s genuine Peppermint essential oil is extremely potent and equivalent to 28 teabags of dried Peppermint herb. It takes approximately one pound of Peppermint plant material to make a 15 ml bottle of YLTG Peppermint essential oil. Native to Europe, three quarters of the world’s supply of Peppermint is now grown in the United States.

Genuine Therapeutic Grade Peppermint Essential Oil  is anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antispasmodic, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antitumoral, and anti parasitic. It is a gallbladder/digestive stimulant, pain reliever, and is known to effectively suppress appetite when inhaled.

Peppermint essential oil is steam distilled from leaves and stems. When properly distilled, it’s primary components are Phenolic Alchohols (up to 55%)  and Menthol (up to 52%). Peppermint oil causes a cooling sensation because these components activate the same receptors on nerve endings that are involved in sensing cold.

Genuine Therapeutic Grade Peppermint essential oil is generally regarded as safe (GRAS) for human consumption by the FDA, and approved by Health Canada as a Natural Health Product (NHP) known to relieve symptoms associated with common ailments, and to restore, maintain, and support good health. Pure Peppermint essential oil has amazing restorative properties, affects several body systems, and may help the following imbalances within those systems:

  • Digestive system (when experiencing digestive discomfort can act as a carminative and antispasmodic: indigestion, nausea, motion sickness, food poisoning, IBS, colic, heartburn, gas, halitosis, liver problems. A 1995 study showed Peppermint to be an effective appetite suppressant when inhaled.)

  • Nervous system (headache, migraine, nerves, shock, anger, hysteria, depression, fatigue, memory, alertness, energizing, mental clarity, jet lag, vertigo, dizziness ~ (University of Cincinnati research study discovered that inhaling peppermint oil increased mental accuracy by up to 28%, and University of Kiel researchers found that peppermint lessened headache pain in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study.)

  • Respiratory system (inhaled to reduce symptoms of cough & cold, asthma, bronchitis, tuberculosis, pneumonia, throat infection, laryngitis, sinusitis, exposure to polluted air.)

  • Skin & circulatory system (hot flashes, fever (lowers temperature), menstrual discomfort, hives, itchiness, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, acne, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, fungal infection, herpes simplex, herpes zoster, cold sores, human papilloma virus.)

  • Musculo Skeletal system (rheumatism, applied topically to help relieve joint or muscle pain associated with sprains, strains, and rheumatoid arthritis. Sciatica, scoliosis, lumbago/back problems.)

CAUTIONS: Peppermint is classified as a “hot” oil. Just one drop is extremely potent. Do not use in conjunction with homeopathic remedies as it will negate their effectiveness. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, or sensitive skin. Do not apply topically onto fresh burns or wounds. Do not apply on infants under 18 months of age.

APPLICATION & USE:

Peppermint essential oil may be diluted (50-50 in a carrier oil) and applied topically on location, on abdomen, on temples, or back of neck. If over the sinuses, be careful to avoid any contact with the eyes.

Use to massage muscles following exercise, or to sooth tired aching feet and legs.

It may also be inhaled directly from the bottle, or diffused (place 3 drops in an ultrasonic diffuser).

Peppermint EO may be taken internally. Use only Young Living’s Therapeutic Grade essential oil and following specific guidelines for using as a nutritional supplement…For example, for irritable bowel syndrome, only use pure therapeutic grade Peppermint oil, and use capsules to ingest, so it doesn’t release until reaching the intestine where it may relieve symptoms.

To thwart an oncoming cold or flu viral infection, take a handful of Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) and add to it 4 drops Lavender essential oil, 3 drops Peppermint essential oil, and 3 drops Marjoram essential oil. Dissolve this blend into warm bath water and while soaking in this bath drink a cup of Peppermint and Lemon tea (to 1 cup boiled water add 1 drop YLTG Peppermint EO and 1 drop YLTG Lemon EO, and 1/2 teaspoon organic coconut oil).

For improved concentration and alertness add a drop to a bottle of drinking water.

To curb appetite inhale five to ten times per day.

To expel gas from the stomach and intestinal tract, mix 1 drop of Peppermint oil with a little honey in one cup of warm water, stir and sip. The same solution may be used to ease nausea or vomiting caused by travel sickness, stomach flu, or food poisoning.

PEPPERMINT AS A ‘DRIVER OIL’: Genuine Peppermint essential oil may also be used as a “Driver Oil”, meaning that when mixed with another essential oil, or layered over top, it helps the body to absorb the other oil or previously applied oil. This will drive the oils more deeply into the tissues, enhancing their overall effect.

BLENDS WELL WITH: Peppermint essential oil blends well with Rosemary, Orange, Lemon, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Marjoram, Wintergreen, or Cinnamon essential oil. Peppermint and Lavender have an affinity for each other and work in a complimentary synergistic way.

INSECT & RODENT REPELLANT: Peppermint oil is an excellent deterrent to rodents and insects who seem to detest its aroma.
