Better Bath Salts

What tired body doesn’t want to sink into an Epsom bath 🛀 infused with Genuine plant power soaking into every pore and cell? ~ soothing, supporting, balancing. Anyone? Anyone?

Did you know that adding a few drops of essential oil to a handful of epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) before tossing into the water “carries” your essential oil into the bathwater?

Even though essential oil‘s are not fatty oil’s, we call them “oils” because they float on water. Essential oils float on water because their molecules are made of hydrocarbons (hydrogen & carbon atoms) which are much less dense (lighter) than water.

Why add your EO’s to a “bath salt” base? …

When we allow essential oil droplets to absorb into a handful of “bath salts” first (Epsom salt + a teaspoon or so of baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate) and maybe even a little mineral salt (Himalayan pink salt or Brittany grey sea salt) the bath salts “disperse” or “carry” the lighter weight essential oil molecules throughout the the bathwater, and the bath salts themselves provide important magnesium & trace minerals for your body to absorb along with the benefits of your essential oils!

Making your own therapeutic bath salts is easy and cost effective! Did you know that when you blend Epsom Salt and Baking Soda with YLTG essential oils, you get a wonderful way to detox the body and help rid your body of harmful chemicals?

Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) is rich in magnesium, an electrolyte mineral we all need! Magnesium not only improves sleep – when absorbed through the skin it works to relieve muscle tension, inflammation in joints, and pain. It alleviates tension headaches and abdominal cramps, bronchial asthma, and is healing to cuts and abrasions, making Better Bath Salts an excellent choice as a foot soak.

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) or NaHCO3, (one salt ion + hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen), exfoliates the skin, and is alkalinizing making it beneficial for rashes and yeast infections. Sodium bicarbonate also helps relieve bug bites, and burns.

Young Living therapeutic grade Lavender essential oil is antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-itch, analgesic (relieves pain & inflammation in joints & muscles), soothing, anti-stress, anti-anxiety, and supports a healthy immune system. Combine Lavender essential oil with Lemon and / or Peppermint oil to relieve allergies.

BETTER BATH SALTS ‘recipe’:

Simply use a 1:4 ratio of Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) to Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), plus pure Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils of your choice.

For a small 6 oz glass jar that’s 1/4 cup epsom salt + 1 Tablespoon cup baking soda. Add a few drops of Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils and stir together well.

Young Living’s therapeutic grade Lavender essential oil, Ylang Ylang essential oil, ‘Joy’ essential oil blend, or ‘Aroma Siez’ essential oil blend, are all lovely choices for bath salts, generally used in an evening bath.

If desired, for “fancy” gift giving, add a Tbsp of dried flowers of choice (lavender flowers, chamomile flowers, hibiscus, or comfrey) to the top of your jar of bath salts.
